Bailey’s Fine Jewelry, a family-owned business with locations in Raleigh, Rocky Mount, Cary, and Greenville, is expanding into Charlotte through the acquisition of Morrison Smith Jewelers. Located at 705 Providence Road in Myers Park, Morrison Smith has been a staple in Charlotte’s fine jewelry scene for over 70 years.
With the acquisition now complete, Bailey’s has taken over operations and will collaborate with the current Morrison Smith team to ensure a seamless transition in the coming months.
This acquisition goes beyond a business deal—it brings together two family-owned jewelers with deep roots in their communities. The Smith and Bailey families share a long history, with Charles Smith, father of former Morrison Smith president Chuck Smith, mentoring Clyde Bailey, the father of Bailey’s Fine Jewelry president and third-generation owner, Trey Bailey. This connection between the two families spans generations, making the transition a natural one.
Chuck Smith expressed the importance of finding a company that shared the values of Morrison Smith. “This decision wasn’t made lightly. It was crucial that we found a company that aligned with our family values and commitment to exceptional customer service. The similarities between Morrison Smith and Bailey’s made it a perfect fit,” he said.
Trey Bailey, president of Bailey’s, also highlighted the significance of the move. “Morrison Smith is known for quality and excellence in the Charlotte market. It’s a respected business, and we look forward to building on that legacy while bringing the Bailey’s experience to Charlotte.”
Bailey’s plans to continue offering Morrison Smith’s renowned repair and custom design services, along with its collection of fine jewelry. Additionally, Bailey’s will introduce an expanded selection of diamonds, engagement rings, and designer jewelry.
A grand opening and other celebratory events are set for 2025, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for two of North Carolina’s most well-established jewelers.
