Patco Jewelry, a beloved jewelry repair shop in Santa Barbara, is closing its doors after 52 years of operation. The shop, known for its high-quality service at affordable prices, has been a local favorite for decades. Its closure comes following the death of owner Patrick Clemens, who passed away in February at the age of 80.
Clemens, who moved to Santa Barbara in 1951 at the age of 5, grew up on the Mesa, where his father opened the area’s first grocery store. He attended local schools, including Westmont College, and served in the U.S. Navy. Clemens was deeply rooted in the tight-knit community of Santa Barbara, a town that still maintained its small-town charm in his youth. He carried that spirit into his jewelry shop, which became known for its dedication to providing “solid work at reasonable prices.”
Patco Jewelry’s closure was announced to longtime customers through an email earlier this week, urging them to pick up their jewelry by Saturday, April 12. The email expressed gratitude for their loyalty and support, saying, “Thank you for your understanding and support during this poignant time. Regrettably, TEAM PATCO.”
The shop’s closing marks the end of an era for many in Santa Barbara who trusted Clemens and his team with their treasured pieces for over half a century.
