The suspect involved in the robbery of a jewelry shop in Quezon, Palawan, has been arrested following a hot pursuit operation in Barangay Ransang, Rizal, on April 10.
According to Major Ric Ramos, spokesperson for the Palawan Police Provincial Office (PalPPO), the suspect was identified as a 55-year-old widow, known by the alias “Nenita.” She is a resident of Barangay Alfonso XIII in Quezon municipality. The saleslady victim from the jewelry shop positively identified Nenita during a follow-up investigation.
“The sales lady identified the female suspect’s picture during the investigation,” Ramos said in a media update.
The operation was carried out by officers from the Palawan Intelligence Division and Monitoring Unit (PIDMU), the Palawan Intelligence Unit (PIU), and the Quezon Municipal Police Station (MPS). The suspect was apprehended at around 8:10 a.m.
The Quezon MPS is now preparing the necessary paperwork for filing charges against the suspect at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor through an inquest proceeding.
Earlier reports had indicated that the suspect, also from Quezon, was a person of interest. A reliable source had stated that the investigation was still in process before the suspect’s identity was officially confirmed.
“She was still a person of interest, and we were verifying her identity, which would be confirmed by the eyewitnesses,” the source had said.
Before the arrest, the PalPPO had been waiting for the official report from the Quezon MPS.
“We are just waiting for the Quezon MPS report, and then we will send our own report as well,” Ramos had previously shared with Palawan News.
The robbery took place on April 8 when a woman entered a jewelry store at the Public Market in Barangay Alfonso XIII, Quezon, Palawan, and stole approximately ₱1 million worth of jewelry.
Ramos confirmed that the stolen jewelry has not been recovered.
