TEHRAN – The Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) is set to sponsor the inaugural national competition showcasing gem-cutting skills, scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 2.
In an initiative organized by Iran’s Gemstone Industry Development Department, a subsidiary of IMIDRO, the event aims to identify and celebrate the talents of artisans, students, and proficient learners in the field of gem cutting within the country.
The National and International Skill Competition Department of the Iran Technical and Vocational Training Organization, in collaboration with the General Directorate of South Khorasan Technical and Vocational Training at the Shahid Radmard Technical and Vocational Training Center in Ferdous City, will meticulously oversee the event, featuring both preliminary and final stages held in person. The competition will encompass areas such as cabochon cutting, facet cutting, and carving.
Abou Mohammad Hashemi, the manager of the gemstone development plan, expressed that the competition serves the purpose of recognizing professional talents and skilled individuals while also providing them with a platform to explore job opportunities within the field.
Such initiatives hold the potential to shed light on the nation’s capabilities, prevent the sale of uncut gems, and pave the way for the growth of industrialists and artisans within the gem-cutting sector, Hashemi emphasized.
