Hong Kong—Fuli Gemstones, a China-based peridot mining company, is set to unveil a groundbreaking gemstone cut at this year’s Jewellery & Gem World Hong Kong show. Known as the “Fuli Cut,” this new cut is inspired by an antique cushion design but boasts a remarkable 65 facets, a deviation from the conventional 58-facet standard. The unique cross-cutting technique employed in this innovation is poised to showcase the peridot gem’s distinctive vivid green color and remarkable vibrancy.
Peridot, traditionally associated with the month of August as its birthstone, belongs to the olivine mineral family and registers a hardness rating of 7.2 on the Mohs scale. The Fuli mine, located in northeastern China near the Changbai Mountains, is the source of these exceptional peridots. These gems exhibit a luminous, bright green hue attributed to their reduced iron content, which influences the intensity of peridot’s renowned green coloration.
Fuli Gemstones took into account the exceptional properties of peridot when crafting the Fuli Cut. Notably, peridot displays pleochroism, a phenomenon in which the gem exhibits varying colors when viewed from different angles. Additionally, it possesses a high degree of birefringence, a property that causes light entering the stone to split into two rays, creating the illusion of doubled facets.
“The new ‘Fuli Cut’ represents a forward-thinking and inventive approach to a classic gemstone,” the company stated. This innovative cut is expected to offer gem enthusiasts a fresh perspective on peridot’s intrinsic beauty, highlighting its unique properties and vibrant green hue in a way that sets it apart from traditional cuts. Fuli Gemstones’ introduction of the “Fuli Cut” promises to be a notable addition to the world of gemstone craftsmanship.
