Gila County, Arizona, is renowned for its rich assortment of dazzling minerals and gems, including azurite, amethyst, peridot, chrysocolla, malachite, and turquoise. Tourmaline, the birthstone of October, can be found in the Pinal Mountains, while December’s signature stone, turquoise, gains local fame thanks to the deposits in Sleeping Beauty Mountain.
On Saturday, November 4, the Gila County Gem and Mineral Society welcomes everyone to their open house and fall sale. This event offers a unique opportunity to mingle with Gila County’s rockhounds and gem collectors. Guests can enjoy popcorn and refreshments, discover distinctive gifts and birthstones, or even try their hand at crafting a wire-wrapped gemstone pendant or a personalized rock-covered copper tree—a truly unique gift. If you possess a stone or crystal suitable for a pendant or earring, you can bring it along and receive instruction on basic wire-wrapping techniques. While there’s no fee for the wire-wrapping instruction and activity, donations are warmly welcomed.
The event will take place in the parking lot adjacent to Oasis Insurance, located at 411 W. Live Oak St. in Miami, Arizona, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Don’t miss this chance to explore the world of gems and minerals while enjoying the company of fellow enthusiasts.
