GRANTS PASS, Ore. – Enthusiastic rock aficionados convened for the second day of the annual Gem and Mineral Show held at the Josephine County Fairgrounds. This beloved event, hosted by the Rogue Gem and Geology Club, a community of passionate “rockhounds” in Grants Pass, offered a vibrant celebration of geological wonders.
The show featured an array of local artisans and vendors who offered an enticing assortment of treasures, including tumbled rocks, glistening crystals, well-preserved fossils, and exquisite jewelry.
One of the vendors, Lesa Motter, who specializes in crafting nightlights from rock and stained glass, shared her inspiration for joining the club. Her husband’s enthusiasm for rocks kindled her interest, ultimately leading her to become a part of the community. She noted that the show not only serves as a marketplace for geological enthusiasts but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among participants who share a deep passion for these natural wonders.
Motter emphasized the power of shared interests, saying, “You find out there’s a lot that you have in common with someone. Once you start talking about rocks…next thing you know, you just make new friends.”
The annual Gem and Mineral Show stands as a testament to the enduring fascination that people of all ages hold for the remarkable world of minerals and geology, as it provides a space for both seasoned collectors and newcomers to explore their shared passion and forge new connections.
